Banana Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins

I’m still new to baking, but I was feeling adventurous and decided to experiment with putting together a lower calorie muffin. I didn’t use any butter, oil, or sugar; most of the sweetness came from applesauce, bananas, and honey. The texture came out a little chewy, but for 130 calories, I’m fine with that!

Yield: 13 muffins
Nutrition: 130 calories each

  • 2 cups flour
  • 56 g mini chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/8 cup ground oats
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1.5 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 2 mashed bananas
  • 1.5 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup applesauce
  • 1.25 cup pumpkin purée

Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Mix wet ingredients in one bowl, mix dry ingredients in another (but leave out the chocolate chips). Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until well-combined. Fold in the chocolate chips. Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick poke comes out clean.

MuffinA perfect morning snack. And yeah, it looks like I’m standing on a crime scene.

  1. Absolutely all my favourite ingredients are in here 🙂 Muffins are the best snack or dessert in my opinion! I always crumble them on my morning oatmeal or yogurt. BTW, I just discovered your blog and absolutely love it. Thank you for sharing such awesome recipes – I can’t wait to try them out!
